A Word from Doctor Poplack:

At Texas Children’s Cancer Center, we are reminded each day that the small gestures and kindness’ extended to the patients and families treated here often become the foundation for great things. Mothers Against Cancer, a registered non-profit organization, began in 1989 in response to the death of a friend’s child. David G. Poplack, M.D., Director, Texas Children's Cancer Center. A luncheon was hosted in honor of that child and $9,300 was raised for research at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. Since that impressive beginning, Mothers Against Cancer has raised over 2 million dollars to support research at Texas Children’s Cancer Center. Mothers Against Cancer is unique, there are no paid employees so every penny of the money raised goes directly to research.

The battle against childhood cancer is fought on many fronts, and through the years Mothers Against Cancer has contributed to a wide variety of promising research. Their support makes it possible to continue to discover new treatments for children with these devastating diseases. My personal thanks to Maggie LaBove, founder of Mothers Against Cancer, and the hundreds of volunteers who have made Mothers Against Cancer such a success. I am confident that one day the efforts of Mothers Against Cancer will help make it possible for us to realize our shared goal of curing 100% of children with cancer throughout the world.
